Beyond a Basic Google Search

  • Math from the search bar
    • Try this

  • Search specific sites
    • example: site:snopes.com tide(Note - no space after the colon)
    • Will search all snopes.com forall mentions of Tide
  • Search specific domains

  • Search specific filetypes

  • Search for words in Page Title (allintitle:, intitle:)

    • example: allintitle: "Google Earth Tutorial"
      • Will return only links to pages where those words appear in the TITLES of the pages
      • intitle: is used with one word, while allintitle is used for more than one word
      • combine filters: site:scoop.it intitle:ipads will find all sites on scoop.it that have the word ipads in the title
      • Can you find all livebinders with the word ipads in the title?
  • Search for words in the URL

    • example: inurl:googleearth
      • Will return only links to pages where your search words appear in the URL of the page
  • Search for Creative Commons Images

    • In Advanced Search

  • Fun Stuff

    • Search for 'askew' (no apostrophes)
    • Set timer (or set timer for 1 minute)
